Front Cover - Version 1

This is my front cover, the first version, to create this i used different software's. the software's i used were Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher.

Adobe Photoshop:
i did not use photoshop to create all of my front cover but I did use it to edit images like the main image and masthead. I used photoshop for the main image because it enabled me to crop the image out from the background to create a more professional outcome. I did this by using the 'lassoo' tool which let me cut out the parts that I wanted but drawing a shape round the image and pressing 'delete' to get rid of anything in the selected shape. I also used the paintbrush tool to colour in any parts I wasn't able to delete with the lassoo tool. i chose to use the colour white for my background as the image for the front cover has a person who has bright blue hair, so I decided to leave the background white so that the colours don't contrast with each other. i did not edit the hair of the person on the front image, the only edit I made to the hair was the photo effect that changed all of the image not just the hair.
Microsoft Publisher
To create my front cover I used Microsoft publisher. this is a software that allows you to design newspaper, magazines birthdays cards etc, without the confusing tools of photoshop. I chose not to use photoshop to design my front cover because I found it complicated and it took me a long time to achieve little. I used various tools using Microsoft Publisher. I used the colour transparent tool in order to make the white background of my main image disappear so I was easier for me to edit around it and meant that I didn't have to ‘send to back’ to put other images on top of it. This tool is found in the drop down box of the re-colour section of ‘picture formatting’. to create the texd on the page i used text boxes wich were easy for me to move about if needed, ssomething which i found difficult to do on photoshop. The plug was created by simply going onto 'insert' then 'shape' then clicking on the circle shape and drawing it at the size you want, one again this was easy for me to resize and move if i needed to.

Use of Images
For the main image I tried to create a positive representation for the person by having them pose with a serious facial expression to give off the impression to the reader that they are successful and serious about what they do, this is also the preferred reading I would like to project across to the audience. This is contradicted with the headline 'romance, alcohol and addiction' as this creates a negative image of the person in the image. the negotiated reading of the main image is that the person in the image isn't in a happy mood and essentially does not want to be there. The main image is of a young female who may appeal to the target audience of persons ages 16-30 and are male, the secondary audience of the magazine would be persons ages 16-30 and who are female, this is because the young female on the front of the image may be inspiring to the girls and possibly project an image of a strong independent woman.
The sub-images I included on the front cover where to make the magazine look more professional and to give an insight into what the rest of the magazine has to offer. i took these images at the many gigs i have been too recently which fitted into this project perfectly as i was able to include famous bands and use my own photo's to make the magazine more appealing.

Choice of Text & Colour Choice
i chose to give my magazine a house style and try to stick to the same colour pallet through the magazine. the three main colours i used in this colour pallet are Red, White and Black.
i chose to use the text on the main headline to grab the readers attention, i chose to include the word 'EXCLUSIVE' because i believe that it will interest the audience and make them want to find out what is exclusive inside the magazine. i chose to write the name of the artist in red writing to link into the red lipstick of the person in the main image. The colour red has strong connotations of danger, this suggests to the audience that the subject in the image is dangerous and fierce. On the other hand, the colour red could also be related to love, suggesting to the audience that the person featured in the image is loving, combined with the red text, it will hopefully help  create a positive representation for the girl.
